The volume documents, not too far from the centenary of the exhibition of ancient Umbrian art organized in 1907, an exhibition event that aims to clarify the motivations, aims and objectives of what can be considered the most important exhibition ever organized in Umbria. Inaugurated in Perugia on April 29 in the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele III, the 1907 exhibition registered a resounding success, qualifying as a milestone in the sector of museography and museology at the beginning of the century. The actualized re-presentation of the event constitutes an opportunity for study on the significance of that exhibition and on the evolution that artistic historiography on Umbrian art has recorded in the past hundred years, and represents an opportunity to retrace the surprising wealth of forms of art flourished in Umbria between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, through splendid masterpieces by Niccolò di Liberatore, Arnolfo di Cambio, Benozzo Gozzoli, Matteo da Gualdo, Pinturicchio, Perugino, Gentile da Fabriano.
