The volume documents some fundamental moments of the Italian artistic culture of the twentieth century. An ideal journey that takes place through the succession of surprising poetic and linguistic riches. We start from the strong propulsive thrust towards the future that animated the fruitful utopias of the twentieth century: from futurism to the mythical surreality of de Chirico and Savinio, to the various ways of "returning to order", to the declinations of realism, from Morandi to Carrà, to the different experiences of the Roman School, to the monumentalism of Severini and Sironi, up to Pirandello and Guttuso. The second part of the century opens with the triad of giants of our informal: Capogrossi, Burri and Fontana, who give rise to important events and personalities, from Forma to the "school of piazza del Popolo", to poor art and the trans-avant-garde. A very rich panorama that rightfully places us among the protagonists of the international context. The volume presents the contributions of Maria Teresa Benedetti (An Italian century), Francesca Villanti (The Italian art of the second half of the twentieth century. A story) and Annamaria Sandonà (The Enne Group in Padua), as well as the catalog and the cards of more than ninety works by great protagonists of the Italian and international art history of the twentieth century.
Subject Headings: Eastern and Western European Art ; Western Art -- Italy -- 1900-1945 ; Post-1945 -- Several Fine Arts Media (Western) --
