With the means of collage and montage and always in connection with his own biography, Marcel Odenbach examines politically and culturally relevant topics of his time, such as the coming to terms with Nazi crimes, the culture of remembrance, the effects and after-effects of European colonialism in Africa, racism and again and again the relationship between the individual and society. The artist Marcel Odenbach (b. 1953), who lives in Cologne, Berlin and temporarily in Ghana, has been working with video since 1976. His cinematic collages and installations have contributed to the fact that video art is now the central medium of international contemporary art. At the same time, an extensive graphic work was created. In the synopsis of video and paper works it becomes clear that Odenbach views art and culture from a socio-political perspective and at the same time relies on the strength of the sensual and aesthetic experience of images.
Subject Headings: Eastern and Western European Art ; Western Art -- Germany -- Post-1945 ; Post-1970 -- Mixed Media and Collage ; Video/Film --
