The fourth publication in the Pars Pro Toto series deals with the well-known Crossroads films by the internationally renowned German-Egyptian artist Susan Hefuna. An interview with the artist by the editor Hans Ulrich Obrist and David A. Ross, Dean of the MFA Art Practice Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York, serves as a guide through the video works, which depict passers-by at traffic intersections worldwide, including Cairo, Frankfurt am Main, London, Sharjah, and even Times Square in New York. They are rough sketches of reality and mark Hefuna’s personal relationships to place and time, are intersections in life, which are attentively observed and continuously filmed without intervention in the processes. The partially staged movements of individual, seemingly uninvolved people merge into a choreography. The Pars Pro Toto series of books, all published by Kehrer Verlag, accompanies a dialogue over many years between curator Hans Ulrich Obrist and the artist Susan Hefuna.
