Published to accompany the exhibition titled, Dante: Gli occhi e la mente--Le Arti al tempo dell'esilio. Publisher's description: An exhibition of authentic masterpieces. Quantitatively concentrated, essential, precise: the curatorial choice was to bring together only absolutely exceptional testimonies, precisely adhering to the theme, truly emblematic of the stages of Dante's exile. By proposing what the Poet had the opportunity to admire in his long wanderings through Italy, works whose echo influenced his Commedia, an extraordinary "poem in images". To welcome this exceptional exhibition path is an equally significant place: the monastic Church of San Romualdo, of Camaldolese origin, adjacent to the Classense Library, in the historic heart of Ravenna. Dante arrived in Ravenna around 1319, while Giovanni and Giuliano da Rimini were working in the city, the latter called to decorate the chapel a cornu epistulae of the church of San Domenico, also followed by Pietro da Rimini, of which the city still retains several testimonials. And it is to the masterpieces of these two artists that the exhibition reserves ample space in its concluding section, interspersed with testimonies linked to the Venetian figurative culture, to document the last diplomatic enterprise carried out in the Serenissima by the Poet.
