This catalog reveals to the general public the decisive role of the Libournais painter René Princeteau in the vocation and career of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. It is true that his contribution was as essential as it was discreet. It is revealed today only through the reading of family archives and the comparative study of the work of the two artists. This work is therefore based on the childhood and youth drawings of the man who became "the soul of Montmartre", but also on later creations in which it is still possible to distinguish the brand and the repertoire of the first teachings of Princeteau. The passions and themes common to the two artists structure this book, richly illustrated, around three main subjects: horses, the representation of everyday life and the circus. With texts by Bertrand du Vignaud de Villefort, grand-nephew of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec; Florence Saragoza, director of the Toulouse-Lautrec museum in Albi; Caroline Fillon, director of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Libourne, which houses one of the largest public collections of works by René Princeteau, and Pauline Leclercq of Château Malromé, in Gironde, where Lautrec died in 1901.
Subject Headings: Eastern and Western European Art ; Western Art -- France -- 1800-1900 -- Drawings and Watercolors ; Painting --
