ISBN 9788836649501
The volume, dedicated to Raphael - in the wake of the celebrations for the five hundredth anniversary of his death - delves into a very specific period of his biography, namely the years between 1500 and 1504, during which the artist, just twenty, decided to leave from Perugia and his teacher, Perugino, to undertake an independent journey, staying in Citta di Castello. Here Raphael was able to enter a very prosperous reality from an artistic-cultural point of view, thanks to the reigning dynasty of the Vitelli and above all to the pictorial legacy of an artist like Signorelli, who had recently left the territory and whose Urbino he was able to study the works closely. Within a few years Raphael obtained excellent commissions that opened the doors of the Renaissance courts and the Roman curia to him: here he painted famous works, such as the Marriage of the Virgin and the Gavari Mond Crucifixion. An essential volume to understand how Raphael became Raphael.
Subject Headings: Eastern and Western European Art ; Western Art -- Italy -- 1400-1600 -- Painting --
