Friedl Dicker-Brandeis (1898–1944) is one of the most important students at the Weimar Bauhaus. The artistic all-rounder initially specialized in textile and graphic design, later she worked as a designer and interior designer. Her paintings reflect the profound engagement with the classic avant-garde. The volume traces the diverse creative work of a politically persecuted artist in detail. Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, born as a Jew in Vienna, was a painter, art educator and communist active poster artist. The richly illustrated volume locates her work in Classical Modernism and shows how versatile the artist, persecuted under the National Socialist regime, worked. Until she was murdered in the Theresienstadt ghetto, she worked tirelessly to encourage children to draw. The individual text contributions describe the special characteristics of her artistic work as well as the art therapy she founded.
Subject Headings: Eastern and Western European Art ; Western Art -- Austria -- 1900-1945 -- Drawings and Watercolors ; Several Fine Arts Media (Western) -- Women Artists --
