Entrepreneur and politician, Michel Jacquemin (Besançon, 1939-2009) gathered, with the complicity of his wife and in complete discretion, an encyclopedic collection of 600 prints and a few drawings, donated in 2020 to the Museum of Fine Arts and Archeology from Besancon. Covering five centuries and more than 200 artists, these sheets have been brought together according to a predilection for original etching, the choice of everyday subjects and, often, a link with Franche-Comté. At the same time, the municipal library of Besançon received other parts of the collection as a donation: 360 books and 200 old geographical maps. Embracing the same period as the prints, from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century, this collection relates to history, Comtois regionalism and travelogues. Paying homage to the Jacquemin donation, this work, beyond the complete catalog of the prints in the collection, offers the hollow portrait of a passionate collector, who never ceased to seek to enrich this collection.
