The book honors the flagship of the BnF's collections, from antiquity to the present day. Through a hundred masterpieces it offers a panorama of the richness and diversity of the preserved works: antique objects, prints, paintings, maps and plans, manuscripts, rare books, photographs. After an introduction retracing the history of the Library's collections, the reader will have the opportunity to admire, through beautifully illustrated pages, the exceptional works it keeps, in chronological order: archaeological objects, such as the Duke of Luynes' collection of Greek vases, the patere de Rennes or the treasure of Berthouville; drawings and prints, from Rembrandt to Durer; Coronelli's famous globes; objects from church treasuries (Dagobert's throne, Grand cameo from France); precious manuscripts such as the Grands Heures of Anne of Brittany or the Psalter of Saint Louis and Blanche of Castille as well as the collection of writers (Hugo, Proust), musical treasures, and icons of ancient and contemporary photography (Nadar, Man Ray, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa).
