The exhibition, composed of more than eighty works, illustrates the key stages of her career marked by a relentless questioning of perspective, urban transformations, architectural dynamics and the musicality of the pictorial touch. “Perspective is a way of playing with space. I get a lot of pleasure from looking at space, the rhythms. The architecture of a city has a relationship with music. There are long times, short times. There are small windows. There are big ones”. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the death of this immensely important artist, the exhibition at the Cantini Museum illustrates the key role of Maria Helena Vieira da Silva in the reinvention of modern art and the contemporaneity of the concepts she raised. Being the first retrospective of a 20th century woman artist to be held at the Cantini Museum, this exhibition constitutes an international operation aimed at rehabilitating the role of women in the creation of this era.
Subject Headings: Eastern and Western European Art ; Western Art -- Portugal -- 1900-1945 ; Post-1945 ; Post-1970 -- Painting -- Women Artists --
