The Auvergne was a land of inspiration and creativity for Jean Dubuffet. He forged strong friendships there, notably with the writer Henri Pourrat, the journalist from La Montagne Alexandre Vialatte and the sculptor Philippe Kaeppelin. During his numerous stays with Lili Dubuffet in Durtol, he was inspired by the pastures and lava of the volcanoes. This book offers a new perspective on his work and his career, while at the same time revealing the creative and intellectual effervescence that bathed the Clermont-Ferrand area after the Second World War. By bringing together for the first time some thirty sculptures, some of which have recently been attributed to Antoine Rabany (1844-1919), a farmer from the Puy-de-Dôme, it also opens up a new perspective on the history of art brut, highlighting the Auvergne roots of the so-called "Barbus Müller" corpus.
